We are avid cruisers and have been on many different ships over the years.
Our most recent favourite was Richard Branson’s Virgin Cruises’ adult only cruise on Scarlet Lady.
A cruise with a difference
If you are used to traditional cruising, you will find this very different.
First of all there is no buffet on the ship. Just a whole host of over 20 eateries and restaurants and it is all included!
We took a sea terrace cabin which had a cute hammock on the terrace we could relax in whilst on board.
We sailed from Barcelona, whizzed over in an Uber to the port. If you aren’t short of time I would recommend a couple of nights precruise in a hotel either near the Gothic Quarter or the Olympic Port which really comes alive in the evening.
The sail away party was great fun and we made some new acquaintances pretty quickly. Yes, even Sir Richard was onboard!
The cabin was bright and clean and serviced by a lovely steward.
The things we enjoyed most apart from the gourmet style food with no extra charges was unlimited wifi, all tea, coffee and soft drinks, world class entertainment in various venues throughout the ship and the stylish design of the accommodation.
However cruises are for exploring different places and we made the most of it!
Our adventure took us to Toulon and we took the cable cup up Mont Faron for some stunning views. We usually get up a bit later on holiday, have a later breakfast and then amble off after any crowds are off the ship.
The second stop was Marina Di Carrara which is the gateway to the Cinque Terre which was on our bucket list. It’s definitely worth doing a trip here as its quite difficult to do under your own steam. It was an amazing if rather hot experience. Utterly beautiful in every way, you need to wear flat shoes as there is a lot of walking and climbing steps!
On the same cruise we sailed to Sardinia and marvelled at the amphitheatre in Cagliari, walked up some more hills and enjoyed the views over a cold drink.
Ibiza was our last stop before our second sea day and the ship docked overnight for those party animals who like clubbing! We made it to about midnight I think!
We loved the perfect mix of culture, great food, good entertainment, relaxing in the hot tubs and the odd tipple or two!
